CaliforniaMan Triathlon - 2004

Background: After 22 years of wanting to "do" an ironman and 17 months of training (I registered as soon as the race was announced in January 2003) the day has finally come. This race, staged for the first time has a very small attendance and runs the Full and

Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon - 2003

Goals: Finish above the 33% mark, earn 66 USAT ranking points, and beat last years 3:47 time

Result: Finish at the 46% (beaten by 54%), earned approx 66 points, and beat last years time by 30 minutes!

This is one of my favorite races because of the incredible views from the course and the attachment I have to San Francisco. Tactically, this is a difficult event, as the hour drive to the race combined with the "shuttle" from the Marina Green to the Embarcadero where the pilot boats are located requires a very early start.

Bethel Island International Triathlon - 2003

Finish Time: 2:36 PR (about equal to SJIT when adjusted for distances which were not exact. 104/129 for total men. Last years race had 160 men and the midpoint was 2:38, midpoint this year was 2:20.
Time last year: N/A

Summary: The Bethel Island is run by OnYourMarkEvents(OYME). This is a very small, friendly race. OYME puts on the TRI for funs and DEL VALLE Challenge (OW swim). It is a low key, and mellow experience. Good coordination and race control. No chip timing, only final.

Half Vineman Triathlon - 2003

Goals: Finish above the 33% mark, earn 66 USAT ranking points, and break 6 hours

Result: Finish at the 15% (beaten by 85%), earned approx 60 points, and …well finished! This is a story of run-away dreams and, maybe a "bad day"---A Triathlon coach I know uses the phrase "its all you" and at the end of the day, comparing yourself only against others rather than against yourself and YOUR best performance----and giving yourself the benefit of using that information is more important than getting stuck with the intended results…read below!
